Bilateral Political Consultations between Serbia and Switzerland Held in Belgrade
The Serbian delegation was headed by Ambassador Tamara Rastovac Siamashvili, Acting Assistant Minister for Bilateral Cooperation, while the Swiss delegation was led by Ambassador Pierre-Yves Fux, Head of the Eurasia Division, with the participation of H.E. Anne Lugon-Moulin, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of Serbia.
During the meeting, both sides assessed that relations between Serbia and Switzerland are very good and substantive, with political dialogue, including at the highest level, having intensified. It was emphasised that regular political consultations represent an important mechanism for further strengthening cooperation between the two countries at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.
Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that Serbia and Switzerland are marking the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. In this context, the importance of the Agreement on the Swiss-Serbian Innovation Programme for the period 2026–2030, signed in Belgrade during the visit of Swiss President Guy Parmelin in April 2026, was highlighted. The Agreement provides an important framework for the further development of Serbia’s innovation ecosystem and represents confirmation of the excellent cooperation between the two countries in this field. The progress achieved in parliamentary cooperation was also noted, along with the expectation that it would continue in the period ahead.
The consultations also addressed opportunities to further strengthen economic cooperation, with particular emphasis on Switzerland’s participation in the Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade. The Swiss side also presented its plans to organise a Summit on Artificial Intelligence in Geneva in June 2027.
The two delegations also discussed cooperation within international organisations, including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), currently chaired by Switzerland, and the Council of Europe, as well as mutual support for candidatures in international organisations.
The Serbian side also drew attention to the extremely difficult situation facing the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija, highlighting the lack of progress in the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue due to Pristina’s uncooperative approach, as well as the importance of preventing unilateral actions that threaten stability and the rights of the Serbian community.
Views were also exchanged on the current situation in the Western Balkans, while the Serbian side presented its activities and progress in the European integration process.
The holding of these political consultations reaffirms the continued dialogue between Serbia and Switzerland and their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
