Meeting of Ambassador Dr. Ivan Trifunović with Guy Parmelin, Minister of Economy, Education and Research of the Swiss Confederation

The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Swiss Confederation, Dr. Ivan Trifunović, met with Guy Parmelin, Minister of Economy, Education and Research of the Swiss Confederation. In a cordial and constructive atmosphere, the interlocutors discussed ways to further strengthen the overall bilateral relations between Serbia and Switzerland. Ambassador Trifunović extended an invitation to Minister Parmelin to visit Serbia next year, upon assuming the Presidency of the Swiss Confederation.

The discussion focused on enhancing economic cooperation, which was assessed as very good, as well as on expanding partnership opportunities in trade, investment, and innovation. Particular attention was given to Serbia’s adoption of the Swiss-inspired dual education system, which combines theoretical instruction in schools with structured workplace training. This approach allows young people to acquire knowledge and skills directly aligned with labor market needs. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the successful cooperation and Swiss support in this process, highlighting the importance of this model for sustainable economic growth and competitiveness.

It was emphasized that the Serbian diaspora in Switzerland represents an important bridge between the two countries, significantly contributing to economic ties, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding. Both sides expressed appreciation for the diaspora’s engagement and role in strengthening friendship and fostering new partnerships between Serbia and Switzerland.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the challenges faced by small countries in an increasingly complex international environment, stressing the importance of innovation, adaptability, and mutual cooperation in maintaining stability and prosperity. They agreed that continued dialogue and exchange of experiences are essential for effectively addressing global challenges.
